Two Pitchers Work Together as StJPII Baseball Shuts Out St. Augustine
The St John Paul II Centurions Baseball Team defeated St. Augustine 15-0 on Friday in Laredo, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. John-Ryan Oliveira led things off, toeing the rubber for the Centurions. He lasted three innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out five and walking zero. Justin De Los Santos finished off the final two innings of the game, also striking out 5.
In the first inning, StJPII got their offense started when Ryan Mota singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
Centurion Baseball scored six runs in the third inning. The offensive firepower by the Centurions, in the 3rd, was led by Clayton Sims, Dylan Olivarez, Eugenio Garcia, Alex Lerma-Palacios, and Oliveira, who all drove in runs
St John Paul II Baseball racked up 14 hits in the game. Ryan Quintanilla, Mark Castaneda, Jason Gongora, and Mota each racked up multiple hits.
Quintanilla was the player of the game, going 3-for-4 at the plate with 3 RBIs to lead the team.
The Centurions didn't commit a single error in the field. Julian Rangel had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.
The Centurions will play a warmup game at 5:30 on Friday (4/27) at the DISTRICT 29-3A leaders, the 7-2 Odem Owls, before playoffs begin next week.
