The TAPPS State Baseball Meetings in Waco this week resulted in the Centurion Baseball Team collecting numerous accolades.
St John Paul II Senior and lead-off hitter Stephen Perales Jr. was elected to the TAPPS ALL-STATE 2ND TEAM. Perales batted .643 in district and was elected to the 1st Team in TAPPS 5A Division II-District 6. For the overall season, where the Centurions faced mostly larger public schools, including nationally-ranked teams from Arizona, the speedy center fielder batted .436 with a .522 on-base percentage and collected 19 RBI's.
Senior Chris Sanchez was elected to the All-District 1st Team and was elected to the Academic All-State Team. Chris hit .418 overall with a .465 OBP and 19 RBI's while playing multiple positions in the infield and served as the pitching staff's Ace, winning 5 games and posting a 2.53 ERA. He also lead the team in stolen bases with 11.
The only Junior to be elected to the All-District 1st Team was the Centurion Shortstop Ryan Mota. Mota batted .529 in district, with at .579 OBP. Het batted .385 overall with a .478 OBP and 11 RBI's.
The Centurions are also represented by the only Sophomore to make the All-District First-Team, in Catcher Justin De Los Santos. DLS batted .429 in district with a .529 OBP while serving as the full-time catcher, he solidly held a .965 Fielding Percentage for the overall season, making only 1 error during district play.
Senior Brandon Deeb was voted to the Academic All-State team and the All-District 2nd Team. The lightning-fast outfielder had a .500 OBP and a perfect 1.000 Fielding Percentage during district play. Academically, Deeb posted a 4.4 GPA.
Junior Pitcher/3rd Baseman Mark Castaneda was voted to the All-District 2nd Team. Mark batted .326 overall with a .448 OBP and 11 RBI's. Castaneda also posted a 2.28 ERA from the mound.
Sophomore and Outfielder Jonathyn Molinar was also voted to the 2nd Team, hitting .329 overall with 21 RBI's. On defense, Molinar had 2 assists from the outfield with 67 putouts and a .945 FPCT.
Also elected to the District's 2nd Team, was Sophomore Jackson Pullin. The strong built first-baseman batted .311 with 14 RBI's.
