Centurion Boys Basketball Coach Traveling to Brazil with USA Sports Team

St. John Paul II High School Head Basketball Coach Doug Nichols has been assigned as the Assistant Coach for the USA D-2 Basketball Team touring through Brazil just before the 2016 Olympic Games.

Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours & Events announces the rosters and coaches for the USA D-2 Men’s & Women’s Basketball Teams – Brazil Tour 2016. The teams are made up of invited NCAA Division II basketball players.

“This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from 11 different state and 12 different colleges and universities. We feel that we have some of the BEST of the BEST representing NCAA Division II basketball and their universities. These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division II institutions have to offer. ”

The USA D-2 Men’s & Women’s Basketball Teams will begin their Brazil Tour 2016 in Orlando, Florida on May 10th. The tour runs from May 10-19. After team orientation and practices in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday, May 11th. The USA D-2 Basketball Teams will play games on May 12 and 13 in the state of Sao Paulo vs. professional and Under 22 teams from the region. On the morning of May 14th the teams will conduct a “Skills Clinic for the Youth of Jundiai” followed by the USA D-2 Women’s Team vs. a professional team from the Paulista League. After the game on the 14th the teams travel to Rio de Janeiro for their final games on either May 15, 16 or 17. The men’s team will place twice in Rio and the women’s team will play once. The team will depart Brazil on the evening of May 18th and return to the USA on May 19th.

While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. The USA D-2 Basketball Teams will also visit sites and venues that will be hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, to be held this August.
