Centurion Football Ends Playoff-Drought With Biggest Comeback in School's History

It was a must-win game on Friday, if the Centurions had any hopes at a playoff birth. Heading into the last game of the regular season, the St. John Paul II High School football team was at a 5-4 record and was hosting Victoria St. Joseph, who beat the Centurions 50-0 a year ago.

Down 54-36 in the 4th quarter, it seemed like the StJPII Football Team was headed for the same fate as a year ago. But, the boys showed a resiliency that has been realized from a long process of discipline, and brought to life this season by Head Coach Andrew Leon.

Combined efforts of a 303 yards-rushing effort from Ryan Mota,

12 carries for 33 yards and 2 TD's, plus 96 yards passing with a TD from Justin De Los Santos,

126 Yards Receiving and 3 touchdowns from Trey Mendoza,

...and 87 yards and 2 TD's in the air from Jace Gaza,

the Centurions were able to set up this game-winning touchdown from De Los Santos to Matt Sanchez,

making the final score 57-54 and solidifying JP2's first playoff appearance since 2012.
