Centurion Football Wins Big Headed into Homecoming Week

The St. John Paul II Football Team dominated the Santa Maria Cougars, but not without a few sacrifices...

The Centurions brought the air attack and settling on a final score 36-14.
Offensive standouts:
Jace Gaza tossed for 102 passing yards and a TD.

Ryan Mota rushed through and around the defense for 85 yards and 2 TDs.

Justin De Los Santos also grabbed 82 all purpose yards and 1 TD.

Defensive standouts:
Defensive Captain Trey Mendoza held ground for the Centurions with 1 interception and 1 forced fumble to add to his 5 forced turnover collection on the year. Trey also leads the team with 21 tackles followed by fellow Defensive Captain Michael Nunez who has amassed 18 total tackles, respectively.

HFC Andrew Leon commented, "The boys showed a lot of fight and resiliency this game bouncing back from a tough loss and also enduring several injuries this game, including a knee injury that put Senior Captain Running Back Sam Works out for the game." Work's status is still unknown. Coach Leon said on the health of the Centurion Football Team, "This week we look to continue momentum despite a few injuries, and look to go into district at 100%."

The STJPII Football Team will be hosting Monte Alto for Homecoming on the 22nd at 7:30pm.
