The St John Paul II High School Football Team opened up at home at Bishop Carmody Field on Thursday to kick-off the 2018 Football Season.
The game was a defensive nail-biter. When the dust settled, the Centurions successfully defended their home territory winning 9-7 over the Greyhounds. Second-Year Head Coach Andrew Leon noting "Overall it was an rough game, but we found a way to persevere and come out on top . Only half the teams in Texas can say they are 1-0, so we have to take this as a positive. However, we know there's a lot of work that needs to be done as we head on to week 2 against a tough Skidmore-Tynan opponent. "
Keion Lewis led the offense from multiple positions, adding 2 catches for 42 yards, and 25 yards rushing, including the only TD for the Centurions.
DQ Lindsey also led a running attack with 14 carries for 75 yards.
The defense was carried by a relentless pass rush from Jordan Scott who had 2 sacks , 6 tackles , and 7 QB Hurries.
Freshman Aidan Olivo also made his JP debut with 1 interception, 4 tackles and a few key catches on offense.
