Centurions Win the Tie-Breaker vs State-Ranked Banquete

State Ranked Banquete and the St. John Paul II Centurions played to a 6-6 tie on Friday at Steve Chapman Field in Calallen.

Steve Perales got a hit in each of his three at bats. He tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the third and sixth innings.

In the top of the third, St. John Paul II Centurions grabbed the early lead, 2-0. Perales singled to ignite St. John Paul II Centurions' offense. A single by Jonathan Conde then moved Perales from second to third. St. John Paul II Centurions added more runs when Conde scored on an RBI single by Chris Sanchez.

Banquete answered St. John Paul II Centurions' top inning with four runs of its own in the third. Banquete scored on a sacrifice fly, an RBI single, a single, and another an RBI single.

Banquete scored one run in the fourth inning, and then followed it up with one more in the sixth. In the fourth, Banquete scored on a single.

Because the Centurions had more runners reach third base, tournament rules give the win to the Centurions, for the sake of seeding for Saturday's game.

"Justin Swetish and Eugenio Garcia teamed up to pitch an excellent game against a very good team," stated Head Coach JJ Trujillo. "They kept us in the game and gave our offense an opportunity for some clutch hits."
